What is ROM?

read only memoryRead-only memory (ROM) is a type of non-volatile computer memory. This means that it retains information after your computer is switched off. You cannot add more data to ROM or edit the information (i.e. it is read-only).

ROM is mainly used for firmware: instructions essential to the functionality of the hardware. This includes the programming required for your computer to boot up.
