What is an SSD?

solid state driveAn SSD (solid state drive) is a type of computer memory responsible for storing data you save to your computer. The higher the storage capacity of your SSD, the more software, documents, photos, music and other files you can keep on your device.

SSDs are an increasingly popular alternative to HDD storage, because they perform more efficiently. The lack of moving parts makes them quicker, quieter, cooler and more durable. However, SSDs are the more expensive option.

Some computers will come with both an SSD and HDD, or a hybrid drive, for a balance between cost and performance.
